SimplyAlpa was created in 2011, turning a childhood hobby into a family business and has grown steadily since completing my Masters Certificate from Squires Kitchen International School of Cake Decorating and Sugar Craft in 2012.
My favourite part is meeting couples and learning all about your special day and getting to know you both. Consultations are so important in getting a feel for what your wedding means to you both so I can in turn create the perfect cake that will leave lasting memories for both you and your guests. Some brides come to me with an idea of what they like and others don’t have any idea which is where I step in! This is why I hold consultations where were can discuss your wedding pulling inspiration from the venue, invitations, the dress, a theme you might have and a collection of magazines and books which I have lots of. I then put together some sketches and prices from which we come to a final design. If you are unable to make a consultation we can discuss the design via email and the phone as I am able to scan designs and email them across and tasting boxes can be posted.
Tastings are usually held two or three times a year where I combine a tasting day with consultations or post a tasting box out to you where you are then able to sample the cakes in your own time at home. Tasting boxes are £20 which is taken off the final price unless you have paid a booking fee of £100 for a wedding cake in which case it is included.
The cake is delivered and set up on the day, delivery is free for 10 miles after which there is a delivery charge of 50p per mile.
When asked how much notice is required, I usually say as soon as possible after booking a venue. Dates can go quickly and I tend to only do one or two cake orders in one week so I can give it my full attention making sure the cake is perfect in every way.
A £100 booking fee which is non refundable is required to secure the date after which the balance is required 4 weeks before the date. Most couples book at least 6 to 9 months before the wedding sometimes over a year in advance.
As well as making cakes I also run tutorials and classes throughout the year on a wide variety of techniques ranging from basic cake covering through to flower making and painting cakes.
