THE PROCESS

Organising a wedding cake be daunting, stressful and costly! I don’t want to create another pressure on your big day, instead I want the wedding cake design to be something that you enjoy and remember as being a fun and enjoyable experience.

From start to finish it’s crucial we meet and discuss your cake. In the beginning I like to find out a little about your big day because it’s all rather exciting! Obviously I will need to know when your Wedding is (so I know if I am available) and where so I can factor in time to deliver and set up the cake. We can then discuss how many guests will be feasting on the cake and, of course, your budget. Below is a step-by-step guide to the process leading up to your Wedding Day.

CONSULTATIONS

I can book you in for a consultation for £25 if you then decide to proceed a £100 non returnable booking fee is required before designs and tasters are released. Taster boxes are sent out at various points throughout the year, usually in the quieter months in Autumn, Winter and early Spring.

Can’t make it? Don’t worry I am more than happy to do a video call if travelling is difficult or if you live in another country and are planning to marry in the area.

SKETCHES & MOOD BOARDS

For naked and semi naked cakes I will do a quick sketch during the consultation as they are simpler in design.
For iced cakes I give three sketches and three different price bands from which you can then decide which you like the most and which one really grabs your attention! I then produce a final design after feedback from yourselves.
For bespoke cakes (£750+) I do a few brief designs based on our consultation to give you an idea of different styles, techniques and prices. After a design has been reached I will sketch a final design which is given to you as a keepsake of your special cake.

Pinterest is a great way to share ideas. I often suggest creating a secret board so we can ‘Pin’ ideas for designs on here before the consultation which gives me an idea of the kind of colours and trends you like.

YOUR WEDDING DAY

Most wedding cakes are made over several days. The cakes are baked after which they need to rest before being cut, layered, ganached and then covered in icing. Then for me comes the really exciting bit, decorating the cake!

Once the cake is ready to go it is carefully packed up in boxes for delivery. All wedding cakes are delivered to the venue and set up by myself. Any final touches, decorating or sugar flowers are then assembled on the cake in situ.

Before the big day everything is checked through: where it will be set up, is there a table/stand for the cake etc. Boxes are provided for any leftover cake and sugar flowers that you want to keep. I leave a cutting guide and information with the venue so the cake will be served as agreed in your consultation.
